Global warming is profoundly altering our world, a phenomenon particularly evident in the Alps. Changes in temperature and precipitation are having immense impacts on biodiversity, flora, fauna, and the landscape itself. Natural hazards are intensifying, and adaptation strategies are also leaving their mark. The pressure to build additional energy facilities and the transformation of tourism infrastructure are already clearly visible. Conditions are changing for mountain sports enthusiasts, too; traditional activities are often possible only under increasingly difficult circumstances. Trails are being closed or rerouted, and the services offered at mountain huts are becoming increasingly limited.
Together with scientists, experts from nature conservation organisations, members and representatives of alpine associations, and students, we are examining these impacts and seeking ways to respond to the challenges posed by global warming.
