The Museum of the German Alpine Club is situated on a beautiful island right on the river Isar, known as the Praterinsel, not far from the Deutsches Museum.

Tuesday to Sunday (including public holidays) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed on New Year Day, Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras, Christmas Eve and New Year`s Eve

Library
The German Alpine Club (DAV) library houses over 75,000 items covering mountaineering, mountains, and various forms of mountain sports, as well as nature and environmental conservation in the Alpine region. Most of the huge variety of items are available in German only.
With a history spanning 120 years, the DAV library serves as both an archive for all DAV publications and a research library for academia and the media. Its valuable historical collection of books and periodicals dates back to the 18th century.
To find out which books are available in the library, you can use the online search function (OPAC).
To borrow materials, you will need a library card. To obtain one, you must register in person at the library. Please bring your national ID card and, if applicable, your DAV membership card. Registration is possible Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. DAV members living outside the local area can use our interlibrary loan service (bibliothek@alpenverein.de).
Opening hours: The library is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please note: no staff assistance is provided at weekends. You will be required to use the self-service check-out. Service hours with personal assistance (registration, consultation, borrowing): Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Collections
The German Alpine Club’s archive collects documents, photographs, posters, films, and other objects relating to the history of the Alpine Club and its Chapters, as well as the history of mountaineering over the past 200 years.
A large portion of the archival holdings has been digitised and can be searched and viewed via the archive database: www.historisches-alpenarchiv.de
Access to the holdings in the on-site archive reading room and the use of archival materials are subject to application and governed by the regulations concerning use and fees (on request).

Research
The Alpine Museum, with its collection, archive, and library, supports both members and non-members in their research. In addition, staff members conduct research in selected areas, for example, the culture of alpinism yesterday and today; anti-Semitism, nationalism - and the German Alpine Club; the relationship between society and nature; gender history in alpinism; other current and historical issues related to alpinism.

Café Isarlust
In the Café Isarlust, we provide a unique location in Munich offering an array of cakes & coffee, as well as a selection of savory specialties.
Our garden and terrace provide you with space to relax in peace under old chestnut trees - right near the Isar river in the centre of the city. On cold and rainy days, we invite you to our indoor area with a reading lounge where you can spend time browsing reading materials. Inspired by the world of the mountains, our museum shop stocks postcards, hiking maps, books about mountains as well as a tempting selection of little gift ideas and games.
